- What does the platform fee cover?
- Guests order from a table, lane, seat, line, or order-ahead link. Plate sends each order to the kitchen and expo, then texts the guest when it is ready. No separate Plate setup fee, hosting fee, or monthly software charge.
- How does the rate go down?
- The Plate platform fee starts at 5%, drops to 3.75% after $2.5M in combined lifetime revenue processed through Plate, and drops to 2.5% after $10M. Every business under the same owner contributes to the same lifetime total, and the lower rate applies to future revenue processed through Plate across the owner group.
- Can I charge an ordering fee to guests?
- You can absorb the fee, offset some or all of it with a disclosed ordering fee at checkout, or split the cost. Local rules apply. Plate's platform fee still applies to the revenue and workflows Plate processes.
- Do I need to buy Plate hardware?
- No. Kitchen displays, expo, kiosks, and ready boards run in a browser on supported screens you already own. Plate does not require a proprietary terminal lease.
- Are payment processor fees included?
- No. Stripe or Square processing fees remain separate and follow the agreement you have with that processor. The 5% starting fee covers Plate's ordering site, hosting, and service workflows.
- Can I keep parts of my current stack?
- Yes. Start with one workflow, location, truck, or service window. Existing third-party costs remain wherever those systems stay in place, and you can expand Plate after evaluating the first rollout.
- What counts toward the lifetime milestones?
- Revenue processed through Plate is combined across every business under the same owner. When the combined lifetime total reaches a threshold, the lower rate applies to future revenue processed through Plate across the owner group.
